For the first time since 1952, an Australian has won the world snooker championship at the famous Crucible in Sheffield, England.
28-year-old Neil Robertson has beaten Scotland's Graeme Dott 18-13 in the best-of-35 frames final.
The victory earns Robertson 250,000 pounds.
"It would have been a big blow if I had lost in the final. I had all that pressure to contend with but hopefully this is the start of something and we can have an event there now," Robertson told the BBC.
Robertson’s family flew over just in time to see the final.
Dott conceded that the Australian was the better player on the day.
"He was far and away the better player - how I managed to get 13 frames I don't know," Dott told the BBC.
The victory means Robertson moves to No.2 in the world snooker rankings.
Robertson's victory also makes him the first world champion from outside the British Isles since Canada's Cliff Thorburn in 1980.
