I agree with Josh and others. This is an arrogant reductionism to think that the only priority for our society is economic wealth - which then only benefits a very few.

This sickens me. when I was growing up I was proud to be a New Zealander because I thought this country was a clean and beautiful place of verdant green and diverse wildlife. However our way of life is now being changed, altered and destroyed alongside our country itself. Literally being chopped up and shipped overseas. No wonder our prime minister spends more on security than anything else. If I was him I would be scared to leave my house after what hes done to this country

It's funny to think that gold, or any other mineral, can make one species decide the future for so many others. Just as well we are the most intelligent species on earth then is'nt it!?

The unfortunate matter is the pressure from all sides to consent to use of our natural resources, the other unfortunate thing is that just because people take the sides of the Green party or those arguing against such use in the first place are labelled as hippies who know nothing of business or the real world. In fact we are not hippies and know exactly how business works and 'what needs to be done' its just that be are selfless and respectful enough to these FINITE resources to avoid their use at all costs. That mine will be short term gains for the human world, when it is stripped bare they will move somewhere else to find resources that grow increasingly rare and leave behind a gaping hole that will take many generations to even begin to resemble anything that can sustain life. Such operations do not fit into what I thought NZ was when I was a kid: a pure and magical place with wildlife and landscapes unlike any other, either keep your word to 'clean and green' or at least own up to whats going on so the people can voice their opinions.
