Hello 3 News and John Campbell I'm an Engineer and I think that this Svitzer Salvage company is just pissing around: Firstly - the oil will not easily burn. The fumes are combustible but once vented, if you threw a burning cigarette into the oil - it would go out. If you tried to light the oil with a cigarette lighter - you would fail. Secondly - the oil is not particularly difficult to pump. There are a multitude of pump designs that would have no difficulty (think of Chelsea pumping Golden Syrup; Watties and Baked Beans; Counsils and Sewage). Pumps that run on compressed air are especially suitable. Thirdly - Why are they stuffing around with a 2 & 1/2 inch hose, why not a 6 inch (150mm) pipe (nearly six times the capacity) and why not several of them. At the rate they are going with the 70mm hose, it will take them 20 days to empty the tanks. The questions must be asked: What is the true agenda of the salvage company ? Are there any financial and other incentives for it to get the oil off quick time?
