Three people are dead after a high-speed crash in Gisborne last night.

Two males aged 27 and 28 and one female aged 24 have been confirmed dead. A second female aged 25 is currently hospitalised in Gisborne.

At around 9:45pm last night, police signalled for the driver of a White Mitsubishi car to stop and pull over. The driver failed to do so and sped off with the police following him for 90 seconds.

The police lost sight of the vehicle and two minutes later discovered the car crashed into a power pole on a bend in Nelson Road, near Cameron Road, Gisborne.

The identity of the people who died in the crash has not been released at this stage and police are currently notifying next of kin.

Anyone who may have seen the White Mitsubishi car in Wipere Road, Stout Street or Nelson Road between 9:30pm and 9:45pm is asked to contact the Tairäwhiti Police.

Bloody tragic!!! When will people get the message to simply PULL OVER when Police direct you too! As these four people found, it simply isn't worth it.
