Indonesian footballer Bambang Pamungkas will trial for the Wellington Phoenix this season.

Pamungkas, known as ‘Bam Bam’ replaces English triallist Chris Shuker who has returned to England due to personal reasons.

The 30-year-old has an impressive international and club  record, notching up 36 goals for Indonesia in 72 matches and 192 at club level in 258 appearances.

To meet Football Federation Australia requirements the Phoenix need to sign at least three players by Sunday to make a squad of 20.

The Phoenix are on the brink of signing Argentinean Roberto Cornejo and Croatian-born Australian Mirjan Pavlovic.

o coomon, lets se what lets see,if bang bang is high calibar of players he will be alreday in some top asin league,in japan,or korea,he will not be seat in indoensian league, and wait to reach 30 or more age at the back, and looking now to go somewhere else,.i live in asia, for 6 years,i have work with soocer around and i have in about 7 countries task Train the Trainers, and i see the soccer games, players, talent, skill, they all- faine, but i dont think so that asian players can be easy task-job in foreigner club/being mate/players,because lots of circumstanes, cannot work, the aeasy players who can acomodate with clasy clubs around is japanese, some korean,.because they are realy developed wery well, and they have skill and talent,.i dont realy say the Aleague is to much better,A-league is simple and similar by the game with asian,in A league any pleayers from no where,or any players before he retaired can join A-league,and i bellive that some slubs from Vanuatu,Kiribas,Solomons,Vietnam, can beat some clubs in A-league,A-league is something what league in Europe is 3 division,.have great time, wish Bang Bang all the best,in new club, lets see his talent, and skill and time for how long he will still exist in this game,......

Don, Mario Kempes was payed around 10K-15K $ US/Month if I am not mistaken. Bambang Pamungkas salary was around 130K US $/year when he was playing for Persija Jakarta. I know that salary is nothin compare the Salary of Marquee Player in A-league. And you said the reason people came to stadium in Indonesia because the ticket is only 2 US$? yes that is tru only 2USD but most of them are a not rich people. Probably they only got like 50 US$/month, but they r still willing to pay to watch a football game. For the quality of the players I am agree that Australia is still better than any other South East Asian Countries, but for the supporters, the athmosphere of watching the match in the stadium, well Australia still need to learn from neighbouring country.

hi don, googling for 'bam bam' playing history. Didn't you know that he was the best player in Malaysian leage around 2006-07? He also played for Holland leage when he was young. He scored hattrick in Malaysian FA Cup Final in front of 50000 supporters and bring the trophy.
Didn't you watch his flying header? Youtube him

@DonIn some sense you are right, but we have got one exceptional Thai player who plays for Melbourne, Surat Sukha. Bro, tbh Japanese or South Korean are much better than players than kiwis. They have stronger football academy there. J-league and K-league have better system than A-league yet they are better to watch than seeing Robbie Fowler's woeful season in 2010.

all asian league except Japan, and Korea,is just fun to be there, some of you mentione that some players like Mario Kempes, etc.play there, how much they get paid for their salary ????????.i dont think so that any asian players can be compare with any NZ or Aussie players by to far,for skill, talent, etc,.this asian players can only play in similar level players, league, etc,.the only countries in asia, play the best soccer is Japan, korea, thats all,.all asian countries they play good for their level,.but thats all,.who only go to the every world cup,Japan,Korea,.thats all,all othar just have dream, who knows maybe some days in next 100 years they will come to the world stage cup,but thats just only I HAVE DREAM, to be there,.

Iam an Indonesian Kiwi and a big football fan.
This guy used to play in front of 90.000 fanatical spectators in any international game in Senayan stadium.
Im not going to say that he will or he won't win the nix any trophy(s). every football players have got on and off days regardless how bad or good they are (think Leonel Messi SA 2010).
But I personaly knows he will work his arse off to win the rugby mad nations' heart and bring the relationship of the two nations closer.
Bad news is, I also personaly knows that he will froze his nuts off living in Wellington with no Indonesian restaurants and their spicy food to warm his soul in sight.
I would not bet my 5 bucks that he'll last a season.
youtube him, you'll agree with me that he is no Zidane but nor he a school boy footballer.
One thing for sure, there'll be lot and lot of Indonesians bums on every home game at the cake tin.
