The Titans held on to beat the Tigers 21-18 at Skilled Park tonight as superstars Benji Marshall and Scott Prince did battle.

It was the locals who hit the ground running; Ashley Harrison and William Zillman scoring inside 11 minutes for the Gold Coast to go 10-0 up.

Scott Prince left the field early on with a suspected broken collar bone – a huge scare for the Titans – but he returned after the break after doctors said it was just a blow to the shoulder.

Chris Heighington put the visitors on the board early in the second half, followed closely by Lote Tuqiri who scored two minutes later.

A Mat Rogers drop goal was all that separated the sides until Kevin Gordon scored a stunning try in the 59th.

It looked like the Titans would hold on until Gareth Ellis forced his way over in the 64th to make it a one-point ball game again.

Errors riddled the Wests’ performance, handling errors crippling many attacking opportunities.

Prince slowed the game down with a penalty conversion in the 78th to ensure the three-point victory.

The Titans join the Tigers on equal points in second place, but sit third with an inferior goal difference.

Both sides will enjoy home semi-finals in the coming weeks.
