Freedom of speech! People don't have this freedom anymore to say something that has become just a normal bit of slang and then you get an extreme response from someone who doesn't look at what was said in context. And why does the media take it upon themselves to be the spreader of such stories? Sometimes things are just better left alone.

off course they should. the only difference to tweeting a comment is the scale on which it is read/heard (assuming the athlete has a lot of followers). how is is so different to an athlete just going around to friends and family talking to them casually and telling them what an a$$ their coach or selector is? sure it may not be as many people but its still free speech and if they're performing up to par, why should it matter SO much?

of course - twitter is juvenile ranting - who cares what they say. And Stephanie Rice didnt say anything that most people dont say in the pub/ at the club/ on the beach anyway. Harmless stuff.

Professionalism for athletes has always been an interesting topic, when is it ok to let your hair down and say what you want? The plain answer is; 'publicly never' don't be surprised, be wise, and take some responsibility for the people around you. P.S Sports and politics should never mix!

Sure why not everyone else can but they do need to remember what they may be putting on the line by doing it. If you cause offence it's out there for all your sponsors, supporters and fans to see. Suffer the consequences like anyone else if you cause offence.
