3News NZ

A 5.7 earthquake at 7am has been reported to be felt widely as it struck 90 kilometres south of Opunake, Taranaki.

Despite the quake being 200km, Westpac Helicopter rescuer Dave Greenberg says “it felt like a good shake up”.

GeoNet is saying the quake was felt widely across the North Island and upper South Island.

The epicentre is 160km north-west of Wellington. No damage has been reported.
