There's a growing view that anti-depressants aren't all they've been cracked up to be.

They can, in some cases, cause strange thoughts of harming yourself, or harming others.

But if that's the case, why are they prescribed so readily? Not just for adults, but large numbers of children too.

It is not good that people in need are being givin drugs and told to watch out for side efects. How can these people that are already strugling with life and death issues be capable off monitoring them selves. It looks to me like this mother was realy trying but the so called professionals were not there for her. Well done TV 3 and to all who fronted. I also think the young man in this program should be comended.

Keep in mind a lot of these people are at their wit's end before they visit the doctor, then they are given an anti-depressant and told it will be three or four weeks before they kick in. When you are in that state of mind three to four weeks is a life-time. Some are already on the brink of doing something stupid before they see the doctor!

Great guys for exposing this industry which harms people in the name of 'help'. Thanks for helping to save lives. Psychiatry destroys people's lives and you are helping to make this known. Anyone noticed how the figures of insanity rise when more people are treated by this industry, if it had any workable methods or real technology wouldn't the stats decrease? Regards Paula

Courageous programme. This was very challenging and eye-opening stuff. I know there is a lot more that could said, such as the pharmaceutical industry being the most profitable industry in the world today. It is small wonder then why they are rarely taken to task about their psycho-drugs which have cost various companies billions in lawsuits and damages. This is definitely one rock that needs turning over and good on TV3 for doing it.

I have been on anti depressions. I have not found them helpful at all! Side effects have been wicked! And when I have told the Mental Health Team about it, I have not been listened to. Thank goodness I have got a great GP!!!!
