Legendary musician and founding member of the Smiths, Johnny Marr is in town – performing alongside our very own Neil Finn.

Seven years on from his “7 Worlds Collide” collaboration, Finn has gathered another group of muso mates and once again Marr is in the line-up.

They played to a sold out audience last night with musical legends from Radiohead, Wilco and even Neil’s son Liam.

Rehearsals were intense as gigs like this don’t just happen overnight.

“I’ve known Neil now for ages but never really played with him so it’s all very exciting,” says Marr.

“I’ve brought a couple of songs, it is gonna be good playing with all these musos, the guy from Wilco playing the piano over there is great.”

Marr rose to fame as the Smith’s guitarist but after they split up in 1987 he went on to play with the Pretenders, , The The and Electric.

He now plays with alt-rock favourites Modest Mouse.

The final sold out show of Seven Worlds Collide is on tomorrow night at the Powerstation in Auckland.

Proceeds from the shows and the resulting album will go to Oxfam.
