Incredibly Strange is treating Auckland horror fans to something special this coming Friday the 13th.
A 35mm print of Umberto Lenzi’s Nightmare City (a.k.a. City Of The Walking Dead) will be playing at the Academy Cinema, along with a collection of horror trailers, all for the low price of $9.99.
In a review of Nightmare City on The Spinning Image, Wayne Southworth writes: “The excitement doesn't let-up from start to finish. The worst thing a film can be is boring, but Nightmare City certainly isn't.
“N'ary a minute goes by without some kind of caper going down and Lenzi really keeps the tension up, despite the fact that this movie doesn't have any stunts, just violence and explosions.”
This sort of film in a cinema is a very rare delight for horror fans these days, but Incredibly Strange guru Ant Timpson says this wasn’t always the case.
“When the Incredibly Strange team were young we used to look forward to every Friday 13th on the calendar year because that meant a horror film would be on the big screen,” says Timpson.
“However somewhere along the way distributors simply couldn't be arsed to provide some thrills for the kids on this very special day. I mean it's Friday the 13th for f**ks sake, that’s a day where it's every citizens god given right to see a horror movie in a cinema! So here at Incredibly Strange we find that lack of showmanship pretty damn dire and to prove a point, we're going to screen some old school 35mm horror for the movie fiends in Auckland.”
Roadshow Distributors is also treating horror fans on the night – they’re supplying 100 double passes to the upcoming Piranha 3D to be given out to Nightmare City attendees.
