A Beautiful Contradiction

Thu, 05 Nov 2009 11:48a.m.
So time for the major news to come tumbling out!

I have recently learnt that every action has a reaction and every decision a consequence. And I have also learnt how to go both forwards and backwards simultaneously whilst actually standing still.

But wait, I am getting ahead of myself - let me explain.

Nearly a year ago a best friend and the recently appointed ‘Maid of Honour’ and I broke up.

I call it a break up rather than a falling out because that is really what it was. We came to a point where opinions differed so much that there was no room for compromise, and both parties were far more willing to give up and move on than to do whatever it takes to make it work. And yes there was the inaugural giving back of each other’s things via friends' halfway houses and avoiding each other at social occasions. So I revert to my original conclusion- we broke up.

Not an easy nor fun thing for anyone to have to experience at any stage in their life, but far more upsetting and frustrating right when one is meant to cash in ‘friend points’ and put them to work for a wedding.

And then time wrapped itself around us, in that elusive way that it does and began to spread out in front of us until I could no longer see any just rhyme or reason for the break up- all the anger had melted and all that was left was a feeling of what we were missing out on.

And you begin to realize that those moments, those feelings are far more important than any distant he said she said which in the light of day showed all its ridiculous cracks.

So we did it. We got back together. And it feels great. MOH back on board, already making life easier as I know it.

Only here’s the part that’s troubling…

One. BIG. Problem.

Throughout the ‘break up’ I cleverly cleansed myself of all of her ‘Bridesmaid things’

Yep that’s right.

No Dress
No Shoes
No Bag
No Jacket
No Gifts!

So I have been running round like a mad man contacting companies to try (desperately) to track down a 2 year old dress… amongst other things. So fingers crossed everything falls into place, otherwise it may be back to the drawing board and looking for 4 more entirely new outfits!?

But hey, if we’re going to be in a sticky situation, I can’t think of a more beautiful reason for it.

I'm getting married to my childhood sweetheart in Feb 2010. We live in our own home in Auckland, along with our 3 adorable, time consuming Meows. I'm creative, opinionated, indecisive, organised, imaginative, a little crazy and not very good at keeping quiet about things that excite me... so this is going to be my perfect playground!
