If the "non-standard practice" works (reliably replicated results, well documented positive effects etc. etc. in this case, vitamin C), why should the doctor lose his license? Because it's not patented? Why should not being patented affect how the said reliable treatment works? This is absolutely ridiculous.

Western Doctors should make it clear to the patients that they are trained in "PATENTED" drugs and that they will loose their license if they give to the patients "NON PATENTED" prescription such as Vitamin C because this is considered as "NON STANDARD PRACTICE". The Hippocrates Oath does not MANDATE that the doctors to give the patients "PATENTED" drugs. Those doctors who refuse to administer IV Vitamin have violated their Hippocrates Oath and are all prostitutes to the Pharma industries

What a tremendous story! In order to protect myself I am going to add to my living will and Medical Directive that I want high dosage Vitamin C given intravenously. This is legal and binding.

This story is ridiculous! Once again, the medical profession screws up. When are they going to figure out we are on to them. They are the biggest drug pushers in the world. Everyone knows it and is wise to them

well watch your vitamin D levels and you won't get flu or anything else! but if you need it http://www.thepowerhour.com/news2/vitaminc_pets.htm you can buy parenteral vitamin c to have on hand for treating your pets easily online (or go to a vet - some use it routinely.) Perhaps this is one area we treat our pets better - vets learn stacks more anyway about nutrition and disease.

This debate goes back almost 100 years! The use of IV, IM and Oral VitC are well researched and have been in use roughly the same amount of time.To claim no research exists is silly. If you don't know about the research then why not call in someone who does? They owe this to the family... the alternative was to let him die.:-)

Perhaps if we look at who actually pays the doctors, who gives them perks and research grants, then you will see the hand of Big Pharma. Follow the money, it's not about HEALTH.

At the risk of sounding monotonous IVC is a registered medicine under one of the brand names C Ascor L 500 as a registered medicine, the Minister of Health gave his approval in January 2010 under s20 of the Medicines Act 1981. The gazette notice was issued on 21 January 2010. It would have had to pass all the right tests to get registered so the argument that there is no scientific evidence of efficacy and safety is nonsense and there is no reason to refuse it's use when we have perfectly trained Doctors who are experienced in administering HDIVC that can be called in to train. I feel like I'm watching Ground Hog day. How many more New Zealanders have to die while we live the same lie over an over and over again? Congratulations on Campbell Live for opening up the legal debate. Lets have the real debate - No one gets a big fat commission for administering Vitamin C - it's just not profitable so people's lives are expendable.

I read about this case 11 months ago on an American website. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/09/24/IV-Vitamin-C-Used-to-Recover-Terminal-Swine-Flu-Case.aspx Why has it taken this long for a New Zealand story to make the news in New Zealand? And after a quick search, I don't see that it has yet made it to the main stories in major NZ newspapers - not on line anyway.

High dose Vitamin C injections are an established treatment, available world-wide for those who are informed about alternative or adjunct treatments. The Centre for Advanced Medicine in Auckland has been using Vitamin C for close to 30 years now. There are well researched and strict protocols for its administration which such centres practice. It is my understanding that it is an incredibly effective treatment for viral illnesses like H1N1, so-called 'superbugs', meningitis, shingles and, under the right circumstances, cancer. I myself have had Vitamin C injections for cancer and would recommend it to anybody - at the very least as an adjunct to conventional medical treatment. I wonder if Nicola has asked herself why it took so long for the hospital to prone this patient when, in fact, they had determined there was no more they could do and wanted to end his life - what a coincidence they decided to turn him at the same time as he was receiving the Vitamin C, eh?
