What makes a great New Zealand home? Is it beautiful to look at? Is it comfortable? Is it environmentally sustainable? Is it cheap?

Well the homes in the video all have some of those attributes.

They're the top architecturally designed homes for the year, as chosen by the Home magazine.

The winner of this competition is being announced publicly this evening, but Campbell Live can show you all five finalists, including the winner right now.

Is it time to get real. If individuals are scared about the risk of a quake making them face an increased excess (and remember in this - then imagine what the insurers are feeling. Exactly the same but their risk is not capped. Basically people have to accept the world is different, plan for it or move on. Self insurance could be the way. Charge an appropriate amount that recovers the cost of the excess over time. Simple.
