Adam Thomson’s auditioning to be Richie McCaw’s World Cup back up

The All Blacks team to face South Africa in Port Elizabeth this weekend has just been named.

With seven first choice players back in New Zealand resting, coach Graham Henry has named the most experienced side at his disposal.

So as expected Colin Slade will start at first five in place of Dan Carter, while there is plenty of interest in the form of fullback Israel Dagg and wings Isaia Toeava and Hosea Gear.

Hooker Keven Mealamu will lead a pack that is a mix of experience and experimentation. Especially at open-side where Adam Thomson’s auditioning to be Richie McCaw’s World Cup back up.
