Great. You made one error in your story on Eric Watson. He wants to live here. He just can't. Fantastic.

I really do feel for her - but sitting at home doing nothing is going to get you no where - the only way you overcome fears is by facing them.... what she experienced was tough but many people suffer horrific things... the only way you can move forward is to deal with it head on and gradual exposure to help.... her mum should have been getting her out from day one - not letting her sit at home all day every day.... it must be so hard on the whole family as well....... I wish them all the best! I think they were brave to go public - especially up against ACC - not something I would ever do - especially when there are so many "grey areas" ohh well... good luck to the family!

The ACC woman's comments were very poor - 'get off the couch' etc. Also her insistence on 'medical experts' while giving little credit to GP's assessment.

None of you idiots that have written derogatory things about this girl have any idea what she is going through, None of you have been shot i'm guessing. So what right do you have to tell this girl what she should be doing? As the brother of a guy who was shot, and nearly died, I can tell you that there can be no time limit on when you are "ready" to go back to work or step outside your front door. Her mind will tell her when she is ready and no government department or anyone else for that matter can tell her whether she is ready or not. I really, really hope she is getting good mental health assistance, if not then the government (ACC) should be getting it for her.
And don't forget it was a high powered air rifle that killed a cop in Auckland so don't under estimate these weapons.
Get off your high horses and try and understand what it must be like for her to have to PTSD. But then I guess you won't because you'd have nothing to flap your gums about any more, now would you?

Perhaps some of that $40,000 should have been spent on 'a friend' for some basic English lessons.

I am a personal friend of the family of Ashley, I have seen everything that has happened to her and her family.
She has NOT had heaps of counciling, around 5weeks where the counciler dropped her off at the place she got shot and left her. When i found out nthey did that i was shocked and alarmed that profecional would do that to a shooting victem.
She has only seen a physicarist for 1.5hrs at wgtn airport where he asked her to meet him.
As for her injerys the outside scar is healing but she still has permant damage.
As i watched the ACC person talk i couldn't elieve the rubbish that was coming out of her mouth, they have not spent $40,000 on her and have made her out tobe someone who just sits on the couch, when i know for a fact that she really wants to get better.
She is a lovely girl who didn't deserve this and the way ACC have treated her has made it 10 times worse.
Her mother has always tried to get her out and help her through this, and going to the media was the last resort. They are a hard working family and by no means bludgers".
I know for a fact thatif they didn't have the support of her GP Ashley would not be here today.
ACC should be ashamed.

A slug pellet in the face, and the event that led up to that may well be traumatic, but New Zealand is filled with people from around the world who have endured horrific trauma, and who have chosen to come to this country to live their lives. They work, find healing in leading normal lives, and get on with it. Any trauma that this girl has experienced would definitely have been dealt to by 18 months of counselling. Now she is just bludging the system and taking ACC for what she can get. Life is tough, learn from your experiences and move on.
