The details of injuries suffered in workplace accidents has been sent accidentally to the wrong workplaces by ACC.

Two thousand businesses have received information about workers injuries suffered in other workplaces, including the full name, type of injury and cost of treatment.

The mistake is being blamed on ACC's external mail system, which is responsible for collating and sending out monthly reports to 15,000 businesses.

ACC's lead advisor Laurie Edwards says the breach is a serious one.

“ACC is still accepting responsibility for it, they work for us, the information belongs to us, so we’re doing what we can right now to try and put it right, we are already organising couriers to gather the information that has been sent to the wrong places and bring it back to us.”

Ms Edwards says the privacy commissioner has been informed, and couriers have been sent to retrieve the reports.
