The Beatles' Abbey Road has topped the vinyl album bestsellers list in the US for a third year.

The 1969 classic sold 41,000 copies in 2011, according to sales data released by American chart compilers at Nielsen SoundScan.

The figures show the record shifted 6,000 more copies than in 2010, when Abbey Road also led the countdown.

Abbey Road beat Fleet Foxes' Helplessness Blues as last year's top seller by sales of more than 11,000.

Bon Iver's self-titled album was third, while Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons and Radiohead's The King of Limbs round out the top five. Adele's 21, the overall bestselling album of the year in America, was sixth on the vinyl chart.
