This comment is 100% true and I agree, however it is entirely inappropriate with regard to this story. How can you talk about the money NZ tourism is losing? Lives have been lost through sheer disregard for safety. 10 young British tourists have been killed in NZ in the last 18 months, this is what is affecting the tourism economy.

I don't wish to take away from the tragedy the Jordon family and friends have suffered. However. Our tourism and export industry are ALREADY suffering substantial damage from an inflated exchange rate. The NZD has become a casino gambling chip that is played by international money markets and it's strength has nothing to do with New Zealand's economic position. We are outraged that Mr Key is ignoring this issue which is fundamental to the survival of our tourism and export industries. New Zealand's economy is being propped up "yet again" by debt, with money flowing in from Australia that is ear-marked for the sub-prime mortgage market. In 12 months, New Zealand will suffer a second recession unless Mr Key acts now. We were surprised to hear of his departure today for the US. We thought he was in Hawaii, enjoying his Christmas holiday! Mr Key needs to start acting like a Prime Minister and demonstrate some leadership dealing with issues of priority, or National can forget about the rural vote next election.
