The Air Force is deploying three Iroquois helicopters to Papua New Guinea to help ensure a fair, free and safe general election.

More than 250 Australian and New Zealand defence personnel will help transport election material and officials to and from remote areas.
No 3 Squadron leader, Tawhiao Coromandel, says the terrain and weather will present some challenging flying conditions for the aircrew.

Mr Coromandel says the squadron has just returned from an annual flying exercise in Samoa, so the timing is ideal.
