Air New Zealand's chief executive Rob Fyfe says he would welcome further privatisation of the airline.

Currently the Government owns a 75 percent stake but if re-elected, National says it would reduce that stake to just over 50 percent.

Mr Fyfe says Air NZ's a good example of how partial privatisation works.

The company yesterday announced a profit of US$81 million in the year to June.

The airline was severely impacted however by high fuel costs and the earthquakes in Christchurch and Japan.
