Campbell Live invited Alasdair Thompson into the studio tonight, but he wouldn't come.

So instead, John Campbell is joined by Helen Kelly of the CTU, plus media commentators Wendyl Nissen and Raybon Kan to discuss fall out from Mr Thompson’s comments.

Watch the video.

According to the stats, women do indeed take more sick leave in the public sector, and presumably in the private sector too. Women in the publis sector take 24% more sick leave than men. It's sad and rather depressing that some people are getting into a lather over the fact that this is likely to partly explain the gender pay gap. Obviously there are many other factors which are likely to contribute.

Mihi Forbes interview was dishonest. Pip Keane's subsequent defence of that interview is just as bad. Clearly, saying sorry takes too much courage for TV3. I seem to recall they also defended the interview where an actor played the role of the Waiorou medals' thief. Alisdair Thomspon has apologised for causing offence, why can't TV3 do likewise?

I have been an employer for a big multinational, there was never a pay rate difference for men or woman. It was who paid to whoever got the job.
I think this interview was poor on both sides. Alistair did not behave with much sense and I think that he should resign for that. The interviewer I thought was also senseless and I feel was more interested in creating controversy to sell the media she represents that she does very well, but I don't feel she was genuine about understanding what he had to say. The stats can be twisted to suit both arguments but are not helpfull.

John, I just saw this article in the National Business Review. You have tarnished the name of true journalism, shame on you.

I personally have never, in 30+ years of professional work, taken a day off due to my period. I submit that women in the workplace are more productive every day due to being much better at teamwork, helpfulness, and sharing. They don't spend a large % of their time at work worrying about their egos. I know men who take sick days when they have a headache or a sunburn! Women in general are much more stoic in the face of pain and likely to take care of their responsibilities no matter what.

@rick Barber. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I understand that you take any opportunity to bang your communist drum, but I have to take issue with your past statement. I'll leave the paranoid conspiracy theory alone, as it is just a laugh, but you say that there are rich and poor because of capitalism, or at least this gap will go away if capitalism does. Do you have any example anywhere in the world where this has happened? I can give you plenty where it hasn't, and plenty where communist systems and government have done absolutely the opposite of what you suggest. Maybe take a look out of the window of your next tutorial. You'll at least catch a glimpse of the real world.

So the EMA needs more time to come up with a "considered response" to the terrible comments Alasdair Thompson has made? Check the board of this outfit: all middle aged white men. That says it all!!

How about the stupid comment from Wendyl Nissen (where's Paul Henry when you need him?). She stated that if males had periods they would get an allowance. If males had periods they would be females, you berk. Had a bloke made that comment about women it would be deemed to be sexist. It's yet another example of the widely held (and sickly liberal) belief in this country that the only oppressors are white middle class males. I better go away and get a bucket.

alasdair Thompsons job is to advocate low wages for the workers, he's done well by divide and rule. The thing to abolish besides sexism is capitalism and all its division starting with class, rich and poor, get real TV3 and your capitalisst owners. It's all a set up diversion by the media and employers.
