The curtain's going up on Alice Cooper's Theatre of Death tour.

The shock rocker is bringing his stage show to the UK - it kicked off at the Manchester Apollo on Tuesday.

Fans will get to hear 61-year-old Alice singing classic hits like 'Poison' and 'School's Out' as well as material from his recent album, Along Came A Spider.

"It's my 40th tour over here," says Cooper. "I spend more time in England than I do in New York, so England is a second home for me.

"But, my Theatre of Death tour (it's a) brand new show, brand new production. I kind of look at my shows as they used to do in the old 30s you know, it's a new show, it's opening night. But it pretty much is. The guy who directed it directed Beauty and the Beast and it's a very produced show, they kill me four times in the show and I just keep coming back."

Gruesome shows are nothing new for Cooper - and he reckons others are now tapping into the life after death mood.

He acknowledges that vampires are particularly trendy at the moment, especially with the international box office success of The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

"There's some sort of thing going on, an end of days type of thing where everybody's involved in some sort of 'is there something after death?'

"Almost every movie, Angels and Demons and everything is vampire. I can see the vampire thing is very romantic, you know, what's more romantic than a guy sucking blood out of your neck, you know, a good looking guy with a black suit on."

Cooper may have been known as a shock rocker in the past, but despite his elaborate show he thinks there's little he can do to really shock people nowadays:

"Marilyn Manson and myself and Rob Zombie will all sit there and say you can't shock an audience anymore. Because I cut my head off on stage in the 70's, now you turn on CNN and there is a guy really getting his head cut off from a terrorist," he said.

"You get the audience to flinch, but I don't think you get them shocked."

Saw your Welcome To My Nightmare tour back in the 70's at Western Springs (before all the young whinging PC anti-noise people moved in and killed the Springs) and it was great. Bring this one down under - COOL!!!
