It's not the royal wedding - but try telling that to fans of All Black Dan Carter.

The first five-eighth will tie the knot with long-time love and former Black Sticks player Honor Dillon in a lavish ceremony in Marlborough on Friday.

The couple will marry at the historic Lake Timara Lodge, where guests are staying in rooms costing upwards of $800 a night.

The 1924 lodge is located on 240 hectares of land which include English-style gardens and a man-made lake.

Carter and Dillon practised their vows at a wedding rehearsal with family and friends on Thursday, ahead of the big day.

The road leading to the venue will be closed off to help protect the couple's privacy - not least because they've reportedly signed an exclusive deal worth $50,000 with Australian Women's Weekly.

It's not yet known what the bride will wear, but 3News reports that Carter has a custom-made suit from Auckland tailors Crane Brothers.

Guests will include sporting icons such as Carter's Rugby World Cup-winning team mates and local celebrities, while it's rumoured singer Hayley Westenra will perform.

Locals are keeping mum about the event - with lodge workers refusing to even confirm the booking.

However, relatives of Dillon are believed to be organising flowers, while the local day spa is booked out for the event.

Carter and Dillon have been together for nine years and announced their engagement last year.
