The alleged killer of a Christchurch mother has appeared in court again, smiling and giving the finger to members of the public gallery.

Malcolm Chaston, 40, is charged with Vanessa Pickering's murder, as well as assaulting a minor and sexual violation.

Miss Pickering's body was found 10 days ago at Godley Head, after she went missing from her Christchurch home.

Chaston pulled the finger at two women in the Christchurch District Court who mouthed obscenities and gestured back before he was remanded in custody for a post-committal conference in April.

There is no justice in New Zealand, the law in this country is designed to protect criminals not victims and their family.
