It sounds like science fiction, but the fact is biotech companies and the US government are pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into research they hope will one day make it possible for us to grow new body parts.

60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer learns about some incredible developments.
 
A New Zealand company is part of the pioneering research into regenerative medicine.  Mesynthes Ltd, based in Lower Hutt, has developed a tissue scaffold technology termed 'endoform' which was approved for use in the US by the FDA at the start of this year.
