And Pretty Maids All in a Row

Thu, 15 Oct 2009 12:08p.m.
Saturday just gone was our first meeting with the dressmaker for the bridesmaid dresses.

Remember a little while back when I said that it seems we know someone in almost all areas of the wedding business? Turns out the dressmaker falls into this category too! She's my future sister-in-law's stepsister (got that?!).

Actually, I feel bad calling her a dressmaker, because really she's far more than that. She used to work with Andrea Moore, a big name in Wellington fashion, and is currently working on some designs and getting her website up and running.

One very handy point to note – she designed herself a lovely maternity dress for a wedding last summer, and so is absolutely clued up on how to work with my pregnant bridesmaid's figure!

We'd previously gathered some pictures together and looked at fabric swatches, so were armed with ideas. The girls had found one dress they both particularly liked, and it will tie in nicely with my dress too.

We even managed to choose the fabric then and there (the colour is called “meadow” by the way, but I promise it's pretty close to apple green)!

So the ball is in motion, measurements have been taken, and they'll have a first fitting at the beginning of December. The dresses will be quite similar, one will be more empire line for preggy bridesmaid and the other will be boned and structured really nicely for non-preggy bridesmaid. Straps are optional for both, the dress will work either way. I'm so excited to see how they all come together, they're going to look gorgeous!

For your viewing pleasure, I've included the photo that we have based the design on (minus the very large bow of course!).

Bargain Bride - Wendy B

I'm a 24 year old Wellingtonian preparing to marry my partner in crime on 30 Jan 2010.  In 2008 we got engaged, bought our first house and had our first child.  Instead of having 2009 off to recover, we're throwing ourselves head-first into wedding planning!  Did I mention we're trying to do it all for under 10K!?
