Angry Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter calling for action against Robert Van Persie for allegedly elbowing Carlos Cuellaw.
Villa manager Alex McLeish has joined the chorus demanding the Football Association investigate the incident after Villa were knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal 3-2 on Monday.
Fans have taken to message boards and Twitter to voice their anger over the incident.
“just seen a video of the infamous elbow incident. 100% deliberate and he should receive a ban as long as Balotelli has for the Parker stamp.”
“They're gonna ban Van Persie for that elbow. . I hope.. :D"
Meanwhile, posters on Aston Villa fan boards echoed manager McLeish’s calls for an investigation.
“McLeish is calling on the FA to investigate the elbow on Carlos. Hopefully, they will.”
While others blamed match officials for missing the incident entirely.
“1st penalty was only after Cuellar received an elbow in the place. Officials bottled it,” a fan said on message board Villa Talk.
The alleged elbowing comes amid calls to investigate Manchester City’s Mario Balotelli for allegedly stamping the head of Tottenham defender Scott Parker.
