Humans do more damage to the environment than dogs Id be pissed too if i'm being slaughtered on a daily basis by the thousands in some countries including the US. It is very rare that a dog kills a human, or even hurts one. Still, it is not a big deal, humans value their own life more than they should, too the point of causing severe pain to innocent animals on a daily basis for miniscule reasons. Im ashamed to be human. Most people are ignorant and don't know otherwise. Muzz, you are close minded as hell.

Good idea to have tougher laws... provided they also extend to people who own dogs that attack people and animal providers Including the SPCA) that sell/provide dogs that then go on to be dangerous! 5 years for killing a dog?.... how about 5 years for owning a dog that attacks and possibly kills (or injures for life) a human???

Sandra, the majority of NZ'ers are not like this, unfortunately the bad few ruin it for the rest of us. And yes our sentencing needs to be tougher on such crimes, unfortunately we have far too many PC liberals in this country holding us back.

This Mendoza has gone out and executed 33 New Zealanders in the most brutal way. They pleaded for their lives, and he didn't even spare the babies. Mendoza should be hung on Auckland harbor bridge so that the New Zealand people can see justice. Hargraves should be able to exact his pleasure before the sentence is carried out.

I'm from Switzerland and I have lived in many countries around the world but am still astonished at the degree and frequency of cruelty to animals that I see in New Zealand.
To me it sounds like these Mann were not just killing these animals but actually enjoying themselves!!I
Mendoza and croanies are a bunch of cowards.
From the sounds of some people replying on Blogs it seems its ok to kill unregistered dogs. I did not realize NEW ZEALAND is a third world country.,,
To kill a kitten by twisting it's head off in front of the family,, The dog, was found burnt, bloodied and peeling after having a solvent poured over it,,
There is too much violence in this country. New Zealand already have a reputation as Baby and children Killer
,,NUBMER ONE IN THE WORLD,,
I cannot believe that any sane & normal human being could do such a cruel & sadistic act.
Why are people not held accountable for what they do? It is called personal responsibility people.
But maybe ,,New Zealande,, is little different then other people. I’m just Google and find more then 825 case subjected to some form of animal cruelty in New Zealand.
But maybe this sort of sick cruelty is acceptable in New Zealand society.

While this dog massacre has been described as cruel and inhumane, the hypocrisy of mainly RNZSPCA and Politicians who have spoken out can not be ignored. On the other side of the fence from this farm in mainly bush areas throughout New Zealand, the use of 1080 poison continues to be used. It is indescriminantly killing thousands of animals, birds and fish. Unlike the Wellsford dog massacre, the difference is it's happening out of sight and out of mind. 1080 takes anything from 24 hours to kill (more for larger species)in an agonising way which is truely cruel and inhumane. My challenge is this: 1080 is cruel and inhumane. Are our politicians too ?? Let the term "politician" encompass people of the RNZSPCA, the Green Party, NZ Forest and Bird, Church Leaders and their congregations, Service club members, farmers and anyone else who professes to focus on doing good deeds in their communities and our environment. Don't let them get away with this. Expose the hypocrisy !

It's not how many dogs he had,or what they did, It's how they were killed!!! these 2 men that kill these dogs are not god and did not have the right to take the law into their own hands, this is not one case of animal crulty, this is 33 and maximun penilty should be handed to them for each animal killed.

Mendoza and his friend need to prosecuted. I hope that they get 5 years+. No normal person would commit such a heinous crime and think they hadn't done anything wrong.
