So many other worse things going on around us and you people choose this one to moan and winge about!
I surpose your not worried about the way livestock and commercially caught fish are caught, kept and handled,(tagging of ears, sheering sheep, catching and processing of commercially caught fish etc.) You people need to get your head out of the sand!!!!! why don't you people take "everything" head on.
I surpose its alright to hunt pigs by chasing them with dogs, then when their to tired to run anymore the dogs hold them by the ears or balls or both until the hunters catch up,by this time normally the ears have been torn off. The hunter then sticks the big with a knife through the heart!!!!
I don't see SAFE or the SPCA shutting down pig hunting, which by yours and most peoples standards is considered very cruel. Or is it not because its a sport?

I hope all you people complaining are Vegetarians!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again i listen to the foreign accents of those in Bureaucratic or Activist bodies pouring their own views through the media.

These machines disgust me! I just saw an interview of the man who made them on 'close up' and he was very aggressive and blurted abuse such as 'Get a real job' to the SAFE member present. This is obvious animal cruelty and I hope they are banned soon, and new laws about the keeping of animals are put in place. People who play this for entertainment disgust me. If you must, do it with the SOFT TOY machines - where nothing gets harmed, it's the same lame thrill you get from this repetitive game. You can be entertained without abusing animals!!

Why do these morons find this entertaining. Yo be plucked from the water up to 30 times . Disgusting. Yes , they are food , but a quick stress free death is their right. The Albion has one now I hear. That's one bar that has lost my patronage.

It's great to see that bars are listening to their customers and removing these disgusting machines! Complain to the others here: www.safe.org.nz What is wrong with people that they think it's acceptable to treat a live animal like it is a soft toy?

Rachel's babble aside.

How embarrassing it is for us that we allow such barbaric games in modern NZ. Of course the crayfish will feel it. Treating it like an item won't hide the fact that is living, breathing. That is disgusting. Oh, and "Michelle"? Just because we have a sense of moral pride, and we know whats right and whats not does not make us drugged up hippies. I'm sure your opinion would change if YOU were that crayfish.

Allowing drunk patrons to torment live animals for money has to be definition of immoral behavior. That this is legal in New Zealand only shows that our animal cruelty laws need reform. I hope that customers at the four bars that still have these machines urge their removal.

After reading their website www.catchacray.co.nz my opinion has changed. There doesn't seem to be any cruelty at all. I suggest you should look it the website before you make an opinion. I want one machine in my pub now!
