Annah Stretton's 'Living Doll' show is complex, masterful and above all true to its theme.

Softly made-up models, each sporting a giant bow atop towering hair, wore garments that were playful yet edgy, reworking traditional shapes for the modern runway.

Short dresses accounted for a large proportion of the collection - many were supported with stiff petticoats to create an exaggerated flare from the waist, while others captured the innocence of a child's shift dress - but separates also appeared as some of the strongest looks.

Detailing was intricate and varied with patchwork, lace and transparent layering creating ensembles that were complex without seeming overworked.

The beginning of the collection was pastel-toned, with a variety of textures and patterns giving shape to the garments.  Soft, touchable fabrics came through in outerwear, while skirts carried ruffle detail.
As the collection progressed colours became richer and darker and layers were added, with the final section descending into charcoal and black overlaid with gold and silver sequins.

The whimsicality of the collection and shape of the key pieces remained constant throughout, lending a narrative feel to the show.

Whether viewed as individual pieces or as a whole the vision behind Living Dolls is clear throughout, and its execution confident and captivating.
