Sandi Adi Susanto, the a 4-5 year-old boy who was brought into the media spotlight as a smoking toddler has now kicked the habit and is attending school.
In March, video of him blowing smoke rings and talking dirty was posted on Youtube.
Susanto now says he loves school because he can play with toys and draw pictures. Pelita Harapan School provides free education to Susanto and gave his parents a small house inside the school complex, in order to help distance him from past bad influences in their previous house, a slum area.
The local government and the National Commission for Child Protection sent Susanto to Syaiful Anwar hospital for almost four months.
He underwent treatment to cure his addiction and eliminate the smoking habit.
"Sandi is in kindergarten now he is improving, he quits smoking and no longer swearing," said Ms Mujiati, 41, Susanto's mother about her youngest child. She added Susanto's siblings are not living in the house.
The couple had to spent more time with the boy to help him not to smoke.
"We always keep him away from cigarettes, we give him toys," said Mulud Riyadi, 47-year-old.
Mr Riyadi earns US$3 a day. He said the government has neglected them since the boy was discharged from hospital.
According to the World Health Organisation roughly 3.2 per cent of 3- to 15-year-olds are regular smokers.
Some cities in Indonesia, including Jakarta, have banned smoking in public places, but regulations are often broken.
