Arbitrage review

By Kate Rodger

Richard Gere returns to the big screen with a great performance in Arbitrage.

Gere is wealthy New York magnate Robert Miller.

His well-oiled veneer as a super-successful family man is quickly peeled back to reveal all sorts of unseemly undercurrents both professionally and personally as one unexpected event triggers off another and his life spirals dangerously out of control.

Gere's standout here but is superbly augmented by the likes of Susan Sarandon and Tim Roth who together elevate what could have been a fairly pedestrian thriller to another level.

While not necessarily memorable, it was certainly a great watch.

Three and half stars.
