I think Its unfair to freeze employees wages, but then again you'll do waht you have to do to keep food on the table. I believe it's New Zealands past & present governments problem were in they have encouraged the younger generation to " tic it up" get loans & finance for pretty much everything and now we are paying for it. Shouldn't we get what were worth?

The recession is a convenient excuse for the Government to
freeze wages of school support staff....we only ask for a Fair Deal!

I guess it depends on how people percieve their bosses. If people like and trust their bosses they will accept their decisions more readily. In larger companies or companies where the boss isn't visible, they are labeled "invisible management" and are more likely to have angry employees. Also the employees perceptions can give a good idea about their bosses track record and if the majority of people think there should be no more pay freezes, then employers better start listening.

Excuses excuses recession wage freeze no money in coffers. School Support Staff have heard it all! we want a Fair Deal Fair pay for our work. Some of us have children or Grand children that earn more hourly than Support Staff working in after school jobs . Is that Fair.Come on get real pay us what we deserve. Support Staff are a dedicated lot we wont give up the fight for recognition a decent pay for what we do daily.

Forget about pay freezes and not getting pay rises as an employee and have some consideration for employers, particularly in SMEs. I am a partner in a firm that operates in a service industry and a number of our clients were (and still are being) affected by the recession so in April this year I took a 15% salary cut. As the business owner I did this to protect my employees from the effects of the recession as much as possible. Once things improve it is likely that my employees will receive pay rises much sooner than I (and my partner) will so we will be feeling the effects of the recession for a significantly longer period than any of our employees.

Recession........what an excuse!!!! Support Staff in Schools are tired of hearing this word. Isn't it time that we are paid what we deserve. Pay freezes need to be lifted now. Recession and Pay Freezes is no reason for Support Staff to be paid only marginally above the minimum wage either.

Employers use any argument they can to give less of their profits to staff in the form of pay increases. NZ Bus is just one example - a huge dispute over a 1% salary variance. Employers need to realise that as the economy improves employees will vote with their feet. If you don't look after your valuable staff you will lose them. They are people, not tradeable commodities.

Yes, the company I work for has a pay freeze 'until the forseeable future'. With the country coming out of the recession I think it's only fair for employers to review their pay freezes...Hopefully we get an undate on our payfreeze situation soon...
