Armed and dangerous man on the run

Saturday 10 Nov 2012 12:17p.m.

Armed man on the run

An armed and dangerous man on the run is being hunted in connection with the aggravated robbery of an Auckland nightclub, police say.

Rory Smyth, 25, is also wanted on warrants for failing to appear in the Auckland District Court on several charges, including the unlawful possession of shotgun ammunition.

An Auckland police spokesman said inquiries over the past few days had revealed him as a person of interest in the October 22 aggravated robbery of Miss Q's, in the suburb of Panmure. Tens of thousands of dollars were taken by a man with a shotgun.

Smyth was known to be armed and he was considered dangerous and shouldn't be approached.

Police describe him as Caucasian, of slim build and around 180cm tall. He has a distinctive tattoo - "Bad boy" - on the right hand side of his neck.

He may be travelling with a 22-year-old woman, Shannelle Ward. She is also Caucasian, of thin build and around 167cm tall.
