The Ash cloud from Chile’s volcano has returned over parts of the South Island for the third time, causing more flight disruptions.

Budget airline Jetstar has cancelled all flights to and from Queenstown today.

Qantas has delayed flights from Queenstown to Sydney for 24 hours, but all other services are operating as scheduled.

Air New Zealand is flying as normal.

The cloud is slowly moving up the South Island and is likely to lie just north of Christchurch by midnight Wednesday, Civil Aviation Authority meteorologist Peter Lechner told Radio New Zealand this morning.

The ash cloud is likely to be around for at least another day or so, but should have cleared within the next two to three days.
