Assault charges upgraded to murder

By 3 News online staff

Assault charges laid against two men following the death of a man in the Auckland suburb of Three Kings last week have been upgraded to murder.

Prosecutors now allege that 35-year-old Trevor Tafutu and 34-year-old Simona Liatoa killed 48-year-old Michael Roberts – also known as Michael Lance Rapata – after an incident at his home around 7pm on February 11, Fairfax reports.

A third man, 19-year-old Jason Macrockyn Tafutu, was also arrested following the alleged murder, but his charges only extend to aggravated robbery.

Trevor Tafutu appeared in Auckland District Court this morning, and Liatoa is expected to appear in court later today.
