Iwi yet to settle their Treaty claims have been offered the chance to take shares in state-owned power companies that are to be part privatised.

It comes as the Government decides to press ahead with its asset sales plan, despite Maori claims to water rights.

The iwi leadership group says the Government has done the right thing in offering shares, but Mana Party leader Hone Harawira says it's an insult.

Mr Harawira talked to The Nation this morning – watch the video for the full interview.

Lynnie, you show signs of being educated that many uneducated NZers choose to ignore. However what you need to add to the end of your analysis is this is; ' off Maaori stolen land.' So in full your statement should read, quote; ' it's entitlement to the management fund generated off stolen Maaori land.' Nice of you to draw readers attention to this obvious fact.

What does this presenter mean by indigenous vs settler rights? Maori are the fist settlers, governors and cultivators of New Zealand. We divided and allocated every part of NZ for it's respective purpose from townships and water usage to vast preservation parks for birds and wild life. This allocation existed before any contact was made with Europeans. What right does any group have to try completely extinguish our place in the governance of Aotearoa? Answer: None, thats why we will not go away racist NZ.

Re Adrian...for all the big words and ranting you do the words that say the most are ' it's entitlement to the management funds generated '. Seems like thats what it's about.

It's a funny olde world. Some Maori like Hone Harawira claim to not recognise the English based judicial system.I can only assume the English/Pakeha judicial system in not applicable in same cases e.g a pakeha land claim;but not when it comes to Maori land claims.Maori are then all too eager to embrace the UK based Privy Council for their grievences. The English based judiciary is only applied when it suits them(Maori).Otherwise it's treated as some MF(using Hone's wordings but abbreviated)English appendage that must be ignored. No-one in existence can claim total ownership of water. For even in mist water cannot be controlled.Maori cannot claim to own the rain, the fog or mist.No-one has totalal ownship in the long term. For some to say "we own the land, the sea,the air(even the radio airwaves) etc, etc, etc" is the height of arrogance. I recently said National are hellbent on asset sales. They owe no allegience or regard to either the Waitangi Tribunal or the Maori Council. This government has no intent on going by what 99% of logical thinking NZers(Maori,Pakeha,PI etc)want. This government primary interest are the dollar signs especially into their own personal pockets. The 'consideration' of the request of the Maori Council and WT are just a 'formality' to give a misleading illusion that we live in a democracy here in NZ.

Such a rediculous view from Malcom heavily entrenched in denying Maaori nationhood. Ironically the Government unreasonably recognizes Maaori short of following up with Nation yet acknowledges them to some extent that an institution exists and globally certified. Its a hilarious expression of arrogance. Decent NZers by no means accept Acts One Nation propaganda, instead a stable, peaceful coherent coexistence is pretty much the order of the day for now until NZ society on a whole accends to a higher level of thinking. Unfortunately political agendas stagnants progression by oppressing the truth. Campaigning on stolen land is not a platform to argue rhetoric.

@(sick of this s@&t) water is managed and controlled by one nation not two purposely denying the Maaori nation its entitlements to the management funds generated. @The Dr even among european society civil unress is a catalyst for evolution. No matter how homogenized cultures are, fractions are inevitable therefore Maaori it seems mirrors European reaction when domestic violence escalates and national security is compromised.
