A boat capsized 220km north of the island this afternoon, ABC News reports.

The Indonesian search and rescue unit says there could be another boat in trouble and the Indonesian navy is searching for one boat carrying 200 people from the Middle East and one carrying 100 Sri Lankans.

West Australian Police are concerned a large number of asylum seekers may have drowned and there are worries about searching for them in the dark.
