Mark,

You do not seem to understand the real issue. The student should be sent back where he came from. No one seems to against that.

But the real issue here is "consitant verbal racial attacks by the teacher". What does it tells you? What students are leaning from the teacher?

Even though the class students are banned speaking to media, they are telling that was really happened.

Your personal experince in Japan, well I guess that you have simply choosen wrong comparasion.

What if all what the students are saying is true? What if student have reported the teacher many times?

Hey Brad, don't call me ignorant thanks. You do not know me....I've lived and worked in many different countries.I was refused entry into nightclubs in some parts of Japan for being a 'gaijin' call it rude or call that racism... whatever but it happens.Did it feel good no did I abuse the doorman ...no.
The point is the kid should have taken his issues up (strongly) with his homestay parents, counseller, police.Keep going until someone listens.Pressures at school .... what about when he gets a REAL job and has a bad day?!
At the end of the day he commited a crime and catching someone on a 'bad day' still does not justify stabbing someone else!

mark//you're just as ignorant as the teacher... You think racist comments are just "rude"? I guess you don't know what it feels like to be discriminated against because of your skin colour. I'm telling you man, racism CAN be justified for harming someone. The boy didn't do anything good and I admit that he should've taken his time and thoughts on the matter, but he is in his time when he gets irregular mood change and I guess the teacher just picked on him at the wrong time.

In fact, the teacher should never have picked on a Korean. Korea's a country with a long history of being picked on and they'll do anything to protect themselves.

No wonder noone wants to be a teacher in New Zealand!Ok he may have been rude but since when does that justify stabbing someone in the back. The kid didn't even have the guts to stab him until his back was turned!I suffered from arrogant volatile teachers at school and was caned several times - s*** happens! Is it ok to stab teachers in Korea? The media are also guilty of whipping up a storm. In yesterdays 'NZ Herald' a student who didn't want to be named said 'He must've said a joke about the boys country' That means that the boy wasn't even in the classroom - he was only speculating.Alot of second-hand gossip from teenagers is being accepted as fact. Are you people the same people who want 'more discipline and respect for teachers in schools' I wouldn't be surprised.Monique: your comments are very interesting because they are from first hand experience.A decent investigation should take place and if your points are proven then he should be out of teaching.

The teacher needs to be punished for the good name of all the dedicated teacher in NZ. He is not only not qualified but also broke the law.
The school try to hide the truth protect its money income.
I hope someone escpecially those from the Korean society here, can organise a formal protest and expose all these to the media.
I also hope the student have a good lawyer. He should not be guilty as he suffers from "Battered syndrome"

I saw many years ago (5)that there was a market for English and Business teachers to Asian people so I came to the idea that to do the best job for the most students, why not go to there country and teach them there as it would be cheaper for them and nice experience for me.I followed my heart and found I was right.
This teacher, like a lot of teachers here in this occupation appears to enjoy the protection of staying in one spot to teach a limited number of students with what appears to be substandard methods.
I went to China/Hong Kong and was ........amazed at the people there. There are Chinese people very capable of teaching English better than Teachers like this person and they are in China.

This is a classic example as to what a screwed up world we live in.

The news and everything is pulling out a whole lot of false truths:

1)The teacher was not stabbed bt a knife but scissors.

2)The Korean student has not been attending this school for "a few weeks" but over a year. People claim and are certain as to having seen him before around school.

3)Complaints were made about Warren. Not just by Chung but a whole lot of other students too. But the staff didn't even bother to investigate this.

And so much more.

Brent Lewis is no better, if not worse. Obviously he doesn't want his school to have a bad reputation or whatever but how insignificant is that compared to a person getting verbally abused 24/7 ?? All the racist comments he had to put up with ??
Everything he's saying are lies.

He says no complaints were made again Warren. FALSE.
He says Chung has only been at Avondale College for a few weeks. FALSE.
I don't see why people even bother to listen to him !

I also think that the investigators and what not should have done their job and INVESTIGATED the case. If they had went through the students files, they would have know straight off that Chung had been at the school for more than a mere few weeks.

I'm not saying that what Chung did was the best solution ever. All I'm saying is that the teacher could have had it coming. I personally don't attend Avondale College but have friends that do and hearing what they had to say, all the lies that are popping out of this !! It's shocking and absolutely ubelieveable.

How would anyone like it if they went to a foreign country and recived racist comments all the time ?

Anita youve got pretty much no idea what your on about.... Last year and the year before Avondale students filed in Complaints about Mr Warren to their deans and principal. All they said was "we'll review it" . so basically the principal should harden up and face the facts. The principal is never going to win against 1500 students.just coz he doesn't want to get bad rep about his school.

P.S it wasn't a knife attack Roger it was a scissor attack (Man up)

Alien//You talk as if you know stuff but to me you're talking a whole crap of gibberish. The USA might not have gone through practical social changes but can you just not feel the atmosphere? I can guarantee that in next 5 or 8 years that USA will be a whole new different nation. And of course, I exaggerated on how NZ was free from racism but looking at the world average, NZ is quite the right country to go for no discrimination. You're partly right in saying that I can't judge NZ for this ignorant bastard but I'm just saying that there're still people like these left in New Zealand living in the past. They gotta snap back to reality.
