Auckland Grammar's first XV rugby team will not be banned from Saturday's final following last weekend's brawl.
Today the Auckland schoolboy rugby cup was returned to the Auckland Rugby Union today by last year's holders, De La Salle College.
The cup is the top trophy for Auckland schoolboy rugby and it can make or break rugby careers. It was also the real reasons tensions spilt over last weekend.
AJ Whetton is one of 50 Auckland Grammar first XV players who went on to be All Blacks.
He says the axe hangs over several players involved in the brawl.
"Some heads or boys won't be part of that huge magnificent event, a rugby first XV final," Whetton says. "I was disappointed getting knocked out in the semis. So the whole season for some of these lads is not going to eventuate."
Whoever wins Saturday's final, either Auckland Grammar or Mt Albert Grammar, goes on to play the other Auckland regional champions - North Harbour and Northland.
The winner of that round then competes at the national top four tournament in Rotorua against regional winners from the Waikato, Wellington and the South Island.
