Auckland couple in court on child abuse charges

An Auckland couple is due in court today on charges of serious child abuse.

The pair – originally from Samoa – face allegations they repeatedly beat a 14-year-old boy over a four-year period.

It is claimed the teenager was hit with various weapons including electrical wire, a hose pipe and wooden sticks, as well as beaten with a belt and machete.

The couple was granted bail to appear today.
