A female police officer has been punched unconscious as she tried to arrest a fleeing man in west Auckland.
The alleged assault happen in the suburb of Henderson about 10:40pm on Wednesday, when police had chased and stopped a stolen Subaru station wagon.
The car stopped by the Ranui railway station where police tried to arrest the four occupants.
The driver allegedly punched the female officer in the face a number of times as she tried to arrest him, police said.
She was knocked unconscious and the four made off.
However, three of them were later picked up and one of them, an 18-year-old male, will appear in Waitakere District Court on Thursday, charged with aggravated assault.
The injured officer spent the night in North Shore Hospital as a precaution.
Police are still searching for the remaining offender.
