Auckland radiographers begin strike

It would be interesting to find out how many pay raises for how much were given to DHB managers, especially the CEOs. I'm sure it's more percentage and more often than what the Radiographers are asking for and the Radiographers are actually producing something real.

Ruz, you are an idiot who knows nothing about APEX, or the medical professionals they represent. It is the health board management who have forced these people to strike. Their propaganda seems to work on morons like you, so they are obviously good at something.

APEX may seem like a 'militant' union, but they are looking out for it's members. I am a radiographer in Auckand and am currently on strike. I love my job, if I didn't I wouldn't have taken the time and effort with study and I certainly woulnt still be doing it. If it wasn't for APEX and all of the fighting they do on our behalf I would have left to go work overseas. Radiographers at public hospitals work like crazy to get the job done, most of use wont even take our breaks to try and get through the ever increasing volume of requests. As a result we push ourself to the limit daily, just to come back to work the next day and have the DHB's tell us that we could be more productive. It is the conditions of work, not the money that were fighting for. Radiology is no different to any other profession. With technology evolving at the speed it is we are very fortunate in the types of computer based software becoming available to us, being able to provide images that only a few years ago could only be seen by surgery. But for all the wonders of technology the bulk of radiology still required radiation. We are asking the DHB's for better working conditions so that mistakes due to stress and exertion don't happen. If all we cared about was money then there is no way any of us would be in this profession. I'm a Radiographer because I love my job, I love the people, and I love the challenges radiology provides. I simply want to be able to continue to do that safely.

Dr Deborah POwell heads the most militant union in the country, the Assocation of Professional and Executive employees which represents radiographers. It seems that these medical professionals don't actually care about providing a health service to the taxpayers that paid for most of their training - they consider money to be more important.
