Auckland is still the number one destination in New Zealand, according to online accommodation site Wotif.co.nz.
The company has released its top 10 New Zealand destinations for 2011, based on the number of bookings made through the website, and Auckland has kept the top spot for another year.
Wellington stayed in second place, while tourism capital Queenstown – which came in fourth last year – dislodged Christchurch to move into third.
The list was compiled from more than 250,000 bookings per month.
Wotif general manager Megan Magill says she was surprised there were so few changes in what was “a challenging year for New Zealand tourism”.
The only other change to the list was the inclusion of Nelson, which elbowed Palmerston North out of the way to take tenth place.
Ms Magill says the Rugby World Cup “had a big impact” in the number of bookings both internationally and domestically, with more than 250,000 bookings a month being made on Wotif.com.
