An extraordinary rescue mission has taken place off the coast of Taranaki.

When Michael Muggeridge was washed overboard on a fishing trip with his mates, the heavy seas threw him against rocks at the base of a sheer cliff and there was no way out.

The Taranaki community rescue helicopter had a very short window of time to get in and get him out.

Michael Muggeridge's rescuers spoke to Campbell Live about the ordeal.
