Updates of the first cricket test between Australia and Pakistan in Melbourne.
8:00pm: That's stumps for day three of the first test in Melbourne. Australia ending the day 111/3, with a lead of 307 runs. Watson is unbeaten on 64, and looking likely to be the first Aussie batsman to conquer the century this summer.
Wicket update: Katich gone for 2, Ponting gone for 12, Hussey gone for 4.
4:59pm: And that's the end of Pakistan's innings! Johnson bowls full to Ajmal who looks to defend, but underestimates the ball pitching in off the seam to smash the off-stump. Pakistan all out for 258. Ajmal on 4, ul-Haq a formidable 65.
4:36pm: Pakistan's tail is wagging a little, currently on 250/9. ul-Haq on 57, Ajmal on 4. 94 overs gone.
4:08pm: There's another wicket! Pakistan are in huge strife at the moment. Siddle gets Asif for a duck! It was a short of length delivery, Asif tries to defend it high but gets a thick outside edge, sent through to the slips. Pakistan crumbling at 228/9.
4:04pm: Rauf is gone! Bollinger bowls a good length delivery and gets a thick outside edge, sent through to North at first slip.Rauf gone for 3.
3:41pm: Oh dear, Pakistan lose another wicket! Bollinger gets Kamran Akmal for 12. Another outside edge sent through to Haddin. Pakistan floundering at 215/7.
3:40pm: Pakistan 215/6 off 82 overs.
3:30pm: Aamer is gone! Short of a length delivery from Bollinger, Aamer tries to block the ball at chest height but sends a thick outside edge to Marcus North at first slip. Aamer gone for 15.
2:40pm: Pakistan 190/5 after 76 overs. Lunch at the MCG. ul-Haq 22, Aamer 10.
2:25pm: Pakistan 188/5 off 74 overs. ul-Haq 20, Aamer 10.
1:50pm: Pakistan 170/5 after 66 overs. Aamer 7, ul-Haq 5.
1:26pm: Akmal is gone for 51! Just when it looked like he would form the basis of a Pakistan come-back, he falls to Johnson. The length is good as Akmal tries to slog back over Johnson's head but catches an edge and sends the ball to Ponting's welcoming hands. Pakistan 159/5.
1:16pm: Expensive over from Siddle, 19 from the over as Akmal goes to town on loose bowling. No run, four, four, six, four, single for the over. Pakistan 150/4. Akmal 43, Aamer 1. 59 overs gone.
1:04pm: Pakistan 126/4 after 56 overs.
12:36pm: Pakistan 114/4 after 50 overs. Akmal 14, Aamer 0.
Monday, December 28, 2009. Day three of the first test between Australia and Pakistan in Melbourne.
8:08pm: That's the end of the day. Aamer comes in as the nightwatchman as Pakistan finish 109/4 off 49 overs. Akmal on 10, Aamer on 0. Play resumes tomorrow, Australia in superb form with bat and ball, Pakistan will need someone to consolidate and rack up a decent total.
8:04pm: Pakistan lose Yousef in the second to last ball of the day! Siddle bowls short of a length leg stump. Yousef tries to move it fine but catches an edge. Decision is appealed but upheld. Yousef gone for 22.
7:48pm: Pakistan 103/3. Yousef 21, Akmal 5. 45 overs gone.
7:29pm: Pakistan 92/3 after 41 overs. Yousef 17, Akmal 0.
6:50pm: Pakistan lose Butt! Watson bowls a good length and catches Butt leg before wicket. Butt appeals but the decision stands. Pakistan 84/3.
6:00pm: Iqbal is gone!
5:15pm: It's tea at the MCG. Pakistan sitting on 33/1. Butt on 18, Iqbal on 5. 16 overs gone.
4:58pm: There's the first wicket for the Aussies! Imran Farhat is gone for nine. Johnson bowls short of a good length, pitches outside off but nips back in. Farhat misses while trying to play to the leg side and is caught on the pads. Pakistan 26/1 after 12 overs.
4:44pm: Pakistan 17/0 after 9 overs. Salman Butt and Imran Farhat at the crease.
3:50pm: And there is Ricky Ponting, come out to declare Australia at 454/5 after 128 overs.
3:49pm: Hauritz is gone! A full length delivery from Rauf, Hauritz tried to flick it to the onside but it raps him on the pads. The decision is appealed by Hawk Eye shows it is plumb, hitting Hauritz in line with middle and off. Hauritz is gone, gone, gooooone for 75.
3:37pm: Australia 436/4 after 124 overs. Hauritz 65, Clarke 20.
3:16pm: Australia 403/4. Hauritz 48, Clarke 6. 119 overs gone.
2:30pm: That's lunch at the MCG. Australia 394/4. Hauritz on 42, Clarke on 4. 118 overs gone.
2:10pm: Hussey is gone! Saeed Ajmal bowls a semi-full length. Hussey tries to sweep but is caught LBW. Hussey challenges, and it was worth a challenge. The ball pitches just outside off but Hawk Eye says it is hitting the stumps. Decision stands and Hussey walks. Gone for 82.
1:35pm: Australia 350/3. Hussey 64, Hauritz 22. 104 overs gone.
1:09pm: Australia 337/3. Hussey 57, Hauritz 17. 98 overs gone.
Sunday, December 27. Day Two of the first test between Australia and Pakistan.
8:00pm: That is stumps. Australia finish the day 305/3 after 90 overs. Hussey 38, Hauritz 5.
7:31pm: Australia 292/3. Hussey 32, Hauritz 0. 86 overs gone.
7:15pm: Ponting is gone! It was a full delivery, Ponting looking to drive, but movement catches him unawares and an outside edge is sent straight through to the keeper. Great delivery from Asif. Australia 291/3.
6:41pm: Australia 234/2 after 75 overs. Ponting 30, Hussey 1.
6:33pm: Katich out! Gone for 98! Katich swings at a ball short outside off, sends it straight to Salman at backward point. So close to a test tonne, but no cigar. Australia 233/2 after 74 overs.
6:05pm: Australia 207/1. Katich 84, Ponting 18. 67 overs gone.
5:36pm: Watson is out! Quite unfortunate circumstances really. Katich played a shot and watched it go as he advanced up the wicket. Watson was already halfway down when Katich turned back. Katich got a foot inside the crease milliseconds before Watson. Cruel end to a wonderful innings for Watson, run out for 93. Australia 182/1. 60 overs gone. Enter Ricky Ponting.
5:15pm: Tea at the MCG. Australia looking very comfortable at 177/0. Watson 90, Katich 77. 59 overs gone.
4:47pm: Australia 157/0. Watson 86, Katich 65. 53 overs gone.
