A spokesperson for Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland says a Samoan woman and the baby she gave birth to on a Pacific Blue flight from Samoa are both in good condition.

Police have launched an investigation into the birth which took place in the toilet of the plane.

The mother then allegedly left the baby in a rubbish bin.

Mother and baby were reunited after the flight and taken to Middlemore for post-natal care.

Child Youth and Family has been notified of the incident, and immigration officials are investigating whether correct procedures were followed about restrictions on pregnant women flying.
