I'm glad the Infantino slings are being recalled as they are a very bad design. Bag slings are dangerous as they push the baby's chin into the neck, the spine isn't straight. In addition to this the extra padding and the fact the baby is hidden out of sight of the mum is a recipe for disaster. But there are lots of excellent slings out there and it's important that mums educate themselves on what is good and what isn't, and also on how to wear their slings safely. Slingbabies is a brilliant free resource for educating mums on what is safe and what isn't and also how to use slings correctly (www.slingbabies.co.nz). Wraps, ring slings and pouches are great slings for little babies. But handbag slings have no place and should be destroyed.
i also think it's unfair the type of sling is not mentioned. There is a big difference between the way a baby is carried in a bad sling and a wrap sling. The bag sling can interfere with the airways of baby being open enough because of the position they are carried in. A wrap sling is more accommodating to carry in safe position for babies
I think its quite unfair that the type of sling isn't being widely publicised. Those in the babywearing community generally know that bag slings are no good, you must distinguish between bag slings and other styles like ring slings and wraps. Also the image of the baby in the wrap unfairly implies that this is the kind of sling responsible for the deaths. Good that 3news is at least letting the other side be shown but you could have taken this much further!
