A baby girl hospitalised in Hastings after an ‘altercation’ between her parents is suffering from serious head injuries, police say.

Officers were called just after 5am Sunday morning to a domestic incident in Flaxmere. Police spent the remainder of the day looking into the cause of the altercation.

The nine-month-old is now in Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s intensive care unit in a serious but stable condition.

Police were unable to disclose whether the injuries are being treated as accidental or non-accidental.

The child’s parents, aged in their late 20s, are assisting police with their enquiries.
